Do you know that amazing feeling you get when you sink into a hotel room bed? Do you love how clean and organized everything feels when you’re away on vacation? I know I do!
Staying in a nice hotel room always makes me feel relaxed and recharged. Everything is clean, uncluttered, and all of the amenities are right where you need them to be.
Actually, hotels are part of the reason that I love vacations so much! So, it would make sense that I would want to make our master bedroom feel like an amazing hotel room, right?
Well right now, our master bedroom is the complete opposite of that!
Because our master bedroom is a spot that our guests normally don’t see, it ends up being a catch-all location for a lot of random stuff in our house. It’s so frustrating to have a messy master bedroom when I’m trying to wind down and relax after a long day.
So, starting today, I’m kicking off our next big home project – the master bedroom makeover! Goodbye “half-complete messy master” and hello to a relaxing haven.
Let me show you some of my plans for the space! I’m so excited!

Alright, technically we started this makeover last year when we decided to upgrade our bed and mattress. You can read all about those updates here. That little update got my creative ideas flowing and I started thinking about exactly what I wanted our master bedroom to become.
New Bedding
Bedding || Pillow
With a new bed and mattress, we’re definitely going to need some new bedding. Confession – our current bedding has completely overstayed its welcome. It’s actually starting to fall apart!
I want to invest in some high-quality bedding that will hopefully last us longer and will also give us that “hotel-like comfort” feel. But, I know bedding can sometimes be crazy expensive. So, I’m on the lookout for that happy medium. This duvet cover is already on my list!
Statement Wall
I love our new upholstered bed, but the gray color against the gray/purple walls was starting to look pretty blah. I really wanted the bed to stand out and be the focal point in the room, so Ben and I decided that we’re going to build a statement board and batten grid wall.
It may or may not be a secret that I love LOVE love architectural updates in a home! Especially white wall treatments.
We’re planning on doing a floor-to-ceiling variation of what we did in our dining room. But this time, instead of doing rectangle sections, the whole wall will be square sections. It will kind of look like a big grid. I can’t wait to see how it completely brightens up the room and adds some much-needed texture.
More Storage
Nightstand
The next update that we’re planning on doing is actually to our nightstands. Our current white nightstands are just not right for the space. We bought them to go with our old bed frame, so now with the new bed, they are way too tall! Also, the style isn’t really something I love, and they have one tiny little drawer and no other storage space.
So, we’re planning on getting some shorter nightstands with a lot more storage. We also want to manage our cables a little better than our current nightstands. Right now, our books, phone chargers, cables and more are always all over the floor around the nightstands. I want a way to keep the visual clutter to a minimum.
I have my eye on this nightstand. I think the light oak finish will look amazing against the board and batten wall and will bring in some warmth to the room.
New Lighting
Sconces
One thing we have struggled with in our master bedroom is lamps. I could never seem to find ones that I really liked but didn’t take up most of the nightstand. For the updated master bedroom, we decided that these pretty swing arm sconces would be perfect as bedside lamps. I love the sconce trend right now and these will be great for reading at night.
I’m still on the lookout for a ceiling light. I think I want a unique pendant type light but I don’t want anything too crazy that will distract for the statement wall. Look out for an update post when I start looking for lights.
Pretty Accessories
Owl Art || Buffalo Art || Basket || “Love Never Fails” Art (Hobby Lobby) || Fiddle Leaf Fig
Right now our master bedroom is lacking in the decoration department. I haven’t really found art or accessories that I thought fit the space. Part of the master bedroom makeover will be bringing in some pretty accessories to complement the design without making the room feel cluttered.
Design Details
We have a few other projects planned for the master bedroom to add in those final design details. One of the things we want to do is trim all of the windows in the room. Putting trim on the windows really makes the room look more finished, in my opinion. We are also planning on building a barn door to replace the door to our master bathroom, and I have a few other ideas that I’ll be sharing in the coming weeks!
I’m excited to take you along on this master bedroom makeover journey! I hope that you follow along with us and tune in to see the projects we’ll be doing.

Have a great week, friends!
Our master bedroom is also a neglected space in our house, and I am finally picking away at it little by little to create a retreat- with a spot for everything. This is inspiring! Thanks for sharing.
