Last year I totally dropped the ball on sending out Christmas cards. See, I’ve had a plan for Christmas cards since I was planning for our wedding. The plan was to send a beautiful photo card every year documenting our family. Then, ten or fifteen years down the road, we could look back over all our Christmas cards of years past and see how we changed and reminisce about each year.
The first year we were married, I send the obligatory wedding photo Christmas card. The second year, we had just signed the paperwork to build our house, so I send a card with a picture of us standing on the land where our house was going to be built.
But last year, there was no card. I messed up my plan after literally two years of Christmas cards. Fail….
Thankfully the world didn’t end and Christmas wasn’t ruined. I may have had a minor freak out about the fact that I messed up my plan for a Christmas card every year, but then I realized that it really wasn’t a big deal.
I was holding myself to this perfect expectation that I made up in my head. Sure it would have been nice to have a card every year without fail, but sometimes life happens. And life isn’t perfect.
I learned during my Christmas card failure moment that I need to give myself more grace. Because living actual life is better than trying to live up to an expectation. I may have skipped one year, but that doesn’t mean everything is ruined. It means that we can look back at that missed Christmas card and remember the year when we had just moved into our first home. Those memories are better than trying to meet some unrealistic expectation.
So as the Christmas season fast approaches, remember that it’s ok if everything isn’t perfect. Give yourself grace and enjoy life.
This year I decided that I’m going to try and continue my little tradition of Christmas cards, so I have been looking online for ideas. I really love the Tiny Prints Christmas collection! They have so many beautiful designs that it’s hard to choose. I love that they mix modern and traditional to create classic cards that will look great for years to come. These are some of my favorite designs.
