Have you ever gone pin-crazy on Pinterest? Where you are just pinning everything and anything that looks beautiful and pretty.
I do this all the time! My favorite pins are of home décor photos. I just love all things home related.
There are thousands of photos on Pinterest of gorgeous homes, each one offering bits of inspiration for me to incorporate into my own home.
I find myself pinning tons of home inspiration every time I’m browsing Pinterest. There are features of so many different styles that I gravitate towards, each one being uniquely beautiful.
Bright white kitchens, cozy traditional living rooms, moody bedrooms, and modern girly offices are just some of the pins that dominate my feed.
Seriously, if I tried to put together all of these Pinterest ideas I would have one crazy, style-confused house.

I’ve started to realize that I’m kind of all over the place with my pins. Honestly, I have never really nailed down what my personal home style is and what I actually like.
I want my home to be a style that I truly love. I want it to be a place that feels like a reflection of me.
So when it comes to my home style, I’ve been feeling a little stuck. I’m so indecisive with design decisions and it’s been slowing down my progress when I’m decorating my home.
I’m constantly second-guessing every choice I make and I can’t stay focused on my big goals for the house. I decided that it was time to start refining my Pinterest inspiration and figuring out what my style actually is.
How To Find Your Home Decor Style
Create an Inspiration Board
First, I created a secret Pinterest board called “Finding My Home Decorating Style.”
I went back through my home boards and carefully and purposefully chose pins that really spoke to me.
Instead of just pinning everything I thought looked pretty, I spent time looking at the picture and figuring out if that was something that I really loved or would want to see in my own home.
I looked for pins that really inspired me, even if they were crazy “dream home” pins. Surprisingly, my secret board started to reveal a somewhat cohesive look.
Use Descriptive Words To Figure Out What You Love
Next, I went through each of these pins and wrote down what I loved about the space and quickly described the feel or look of the space.

Find The Common Threads To Discover Your Style
Looking back over my board, I noticed some reoccurring themes in what I loved about the spaces and the words I used to describe them.
White || Gray || Black || Neutral || Contrast || Bold || Moody || Bright || Colorful Accents || Wood Tones || Modern || Textures || Architectural Elements || Clean Lines || Comfortable
Based on these descriptive words, I can start to search for more inspiration on Pinterest and continue to hone in my design style.
Using all of the ideas, inspiration, and descriptive words, I named my own personal design style.
It’s a little bit of modern meets traditional with natural elements. I’m calling it “Modern Classic Organic” style. I don’t really know if that counts as a “name” for a home decorating style, but that’s ok. I’m going with it!
You don’t have to fit into one home decor style box. Your style can be as unique as you are. Don’t be afraid to mix styles together to create one that’s perfect for you!
How Your Home Style Can Help You Decorate Your House
Now that I have a style for the home, I can use it as a guide in the decisions that I need to make going forward.
Having a clear direction will be so important to help weed out the wrong choices for our home and focus in on things that we will truly love.
Have you figured out your décor style yet?
As overwhelming as Pinterest can seem, it really is a useful tool. Try creating your own “Home Decorating Style” board and see what recurring elements you find in your inspiration.
I’m so glad that I was finally able to narrow down a style for my home. I hope that this helps you get some ideas to start finding your own home decor style.
Great idea for determining your style. I haven’t been able to “label” my style, but I think you’ve described my style as well. I ended up painting all my walls grey, with white trim, and added a light grey carpet (since I love the look of wood floors, but not the feel). I love turquoise and coral and added pops, and in some cases more than pops, of those colors in each room in differing shades and amounts. I love how everything turned out.
Yes!! Dyan I love all those things too! Coral and turquoise are great colors. Your home sounds gorgeous, I feel like I would feel right at home 🙂
