Welcome back my decorating series
Get the Modern Classic Look for Less!
My favorite home decorating style is a mix of contemporary modern and classic traditional. I think the two styles pair so well together and create a fresh, and casual atmosphere in a home. Whenever I’m browsing through Pinterest, “Modern Classic” is a style that I see all throughout designer homes. I love the look, but I don’t love the price!
I’m a big believer that you can have a stylish home on a regular budget. There’s no reason that you need to spend $90 on a pillow cover (for example) in order to have a beautiful home. That’s just crazy! So, I decided it was time to start figuring out how I could get that modern classic look for less.
Today I’m sharing my favorite mix & match modern pillow covers.

Throw pillows are so much fun to decorate with. They add tons of charm and personality to a living room.
The best way to change up your pillows is to buy nice, high-quality pillow forms and change out the pillow covers. It’s much more cost-effective than buying new pillows all the time and allows you to play around with different colors and patterns whenever you feel like changing up your decor.
I really like these inserts here and here. I also like to browse the clearance section of HomeGoods for pillows that have great inserts. Even if the covers are terrible, they are worth buying at a clearance price just for the inserts.
Mixing pillow covers that have different colors and patterns creates a lot of interest and make a room feel really pulled together. Here are some of my favorites!
Mix and Match Modern Pillow Covers

A solid pillow makes a great base to layer and helps ground the rest of the pillows in the space. I love this navy velvet pillow cover!

Neutral patterns are a great way to add some pattern without going crazy. I really love this gray and beige modern pillow cover.
>> 3 <<
Floral pillows are great as statement pieces on a couch. This pillow cover is really pretty and fresh!

Striped pillows act as the neutral of patterns. Stripes can work with other patterns without looking too busy. This subtle pillow cover is a great layering piece.
>> 5 <<
This is a more bold pillow, but the navy color is great for modern classic decor. I really like the geometric look of this pillow cover.

Buffalo check is really in right now. It is a great classic pattern that pairs well with modern decor. This black checkered pillow cover is a great classic piece.
>> 7 <<
Tropical leaves are really trendy and modern. They also look great paired with more traditional decor items. This pillow cover is sophisticated but still fun.

Mudcloth pattern is really in right now with designers. This pillow pattern is eclectic and interesting while still being neutral. I love the mudcloth trend for modern classic decor!

Bigger patterns also look great when they are done in a single color. This feather pillow cover is playful but still traditional enough to work in a living room.
