Welcome back to our Christmas Home Tour 2020. We left off in the dining room, so if you missed that you can take the tour here.
I decided to save the best for last because today, I’m sharing our living room. This is the main living space in our home, and also the room where we put up our family Christmas tree.
Of all the rooms in our home, this space is the one that’s completely decked out for Christmas. We end up spending most of our time here, and I wanted it to feel festive!
The focal point of the room is our Christmas tree. We like to get a real tree every year and this year’s version was a perfect size.
I am not normally someone who decorates the tree with one particular color scheme or theme. We like to have a traditional family ornament tree instead.
Our tree is covered with family ornaments that we’ve collected over the years. It’s fun to pull out the decor boxes each year and find our favorite ornaments. Some are just fun ones that we love and others are from special events in our lives or trips we’ve taken.
I love that our main Christmas tree is filled with memories.
This year we decided not to put up the train. Since Nova is 1 now, she’s on the move and gets into everything.
I was still able to decorate the tree basically the way we normally would. I picked out all of our “soft” and non-breakable ornaments and used those at the bottom. I also got a small set of shatterproof ornaments that I used throughout the bottom of the tree.
So far, she’s been really good with the tree and hasn’t tried to rip ornaments off. We also tied the entire tree to the staircase banister using fishing line. That way, there’s isn’t a chance of the whole tree toppling over.
I love how the tree looks in this nook area of our living room. It’s in the center of our home, so you can see the tree glow from all of the rooms on the main level.
We also have some new artwork on the wall by the tree this year. I think the lights from the tree reflecting in the artwork looks magical.
Underneath the artwork, I have a small toy chest filled with some of Nova’s toys. I swapped the pillow for this cute festive red Christmas pillow.
On the staircase, I have the pine and eucalyptus Christmas garland.
You can see my original post showing how I created the garland look here.
I did a small swap this year and used these eucalyptus garlands instead of the single stems throughout.
I shared more about the change in the dining room tour, and I really love how it all came together.
In the living room I also have a bunch of Christmas bells.
This metal bell garland is a new addition this year, and I love it! I got the last one at Michaels!
Did you know that these types of bells are actually called “Noah Bells?” I didn’t, and now I learned something new.
You could get a similar look with these bells and some twine to create your own metal bell garland.
On the couch, I did my usual swap of the pillow covers.
I really love the tones and textures I used this year.
I think my new favorite one is the brown pillow cover with the subtle pattern. I think it’s going to stay in my decor year round. I found it for a steal on Amazon.
On the end tables, I set up white ceramic houses to create some simple Christmas vignettes.
I wanted these to glow at night, so I added some battery operated candles inside of the houses. It’s so pretty at night when everything is lit up.
My shelves in the living room got a full Christmas makeover.
Honestly, I think this is my favorite styled spot in the entire home this year. I just love these shelves!
I used our nativity set and some other Christmas decor mixed with some faux Christmas greenery to create this styled look.
I found this greenery this year and it’s very realistic looking and has a great texture. I bought a bunch of stems and used them throughout our home.
The art print in the back is from Lindsay Letters. I really love the modern classic feel that it has and it is a great anchor piece on the shelves.
The garland is a new decor piece that I grabbed from Studio McGee’s collection at Target. I’m not going to lie, I tried to get this to lay in the perfect spot for way too long, but I finally got it exactly how I was picturing in my mind!
I love that it’s super chunky and substantial. It’s another decor piece that I’ll be keeping out long after Christmas.
The living room shelves above the TV area are a new space that I got to decorate for Christmas this year. I had a plan in my mind to create a wintery white Christmas village scene.
I loved when we used to have the Christmas village set out at my parent’s house growing up. I wanted to create a similar feeling but modernized.
I found a few Christmas village houses at Goodwill. None of them matched or came from the same set but that was ok. I wanted to spray paint them all matte white to create a cohesive look.
Once they were painted, I put them on the shelves with some bottle brush trees. I also put these pretty modern gold snowflakes behind the houses.
I used a strand of battery operated fairy lights on each shelf along the back to make everything glow at night. The lights sit behind the houses and then I also tucked some of the light strands inside of the houses so they would glow.
It’s so pretty at night and looks like little winter villages in the distance. I want to try and add on more houses each year to create a collection.
On the media center, I created a simple display with this new “Joy” modern sign.
I also have a Christmas candle from Antique Candle Co burning in here.
The Christmas Day candle is so amazing! It really does smell like Christmas Day. I also love the Tree Farm candle because it’s that perfect Christmas tree scent you expect from fresh trees.
I hope you enjoyed this tour of our Christmas living room.
Thanks for checking out all of the spaces on our Christmas Home Tour 2020. I want to wish you and your family a Merry Christmas!
