Welcome to our Modern Classic Christmas Home Tour! Today I’m sharing our home all decorated for Christmas.
Before we start, I have to confess to one thing. These photos are from last year!
That’s right, I took all of these photos last year at Christmas and I never got the chance to share them on the blog.
Thankfully, this worked out pretty well for me. That’s because in November of this year, we welcomed our first baby!
You can see my pregnancy announcement here.
We’re so excited to now be a family of three. But, we’re still in the newborn stage and in the middle of the holiday season. And that means there’s not really time for Christmas home tour photos.
To keep things simple this year, I decided to decorate the house exactly the same as last year. I absolutely loved how everything was set up last year, so it was not a hard decision to keep things the same.
Having these photos made it so much easier to quickly get our decorations up and ready for the holidays.
So now that you know my secret, I want to invite you in to take a virtual tour of our modern classic home all decked out for Christmas.
Come on in!

Christmas in our home is all about traditions. I’ve never been one to go with the latest Christmas color trends or decor. I like to stick with my tried and true favorites year after year.
I try to mix red and green traditional colors with modern textures and accents. The two styles balance each other well and create a fresh take on holiday decor.
One of our traditions each year is to get a real Christmas tree. We love putting the tree in the nook right when you come up the stairs to the living room.
This year, we had a new bookshelf in that area. So, we temporarily relocated the shelves and one of our accent chairs to make room for the tree.
To make the shelves a little more festive, I swapped out a few of the normal decorative pieces for some Christmas items.
This nativity was a wedding present that we got from a family member. I love putting it out each year.
I also added some of my favorite Polar Express pieces. This hot chocolate mug is the perfect place for some colorful ornaments.
And you can find the train ticket and bell gift box on the lower shelf. That book is one of my favorites at Christmas.
I swapped out our pillow covers for some traditional reds and greens. And I mixed in a few modern patterns with some stripes.
I love the rich texture that the green velvet pillows have. They look so pretty next to my red plaid pillows and make the couch extra cozy.
On the end tables, I kept the decor simple. The wooden “joy” decoration is one of my favorite finds that I picked up at Homegoods years ago. I love that it’s a mix of traditional and modern. It’s just perfect!
If you look around our home, you’ll notice that I have a thing for decorative trees at the holidays. I just can’t seem to pass up a good tree decoration.
This wooden one was a unique find from a local plant nursery. Ben spotted it and I just loved it!
We don’t have a fireplace or a mantle in our townhome. So Ben built this wooden ladder a few years ago to hold our stockings.
I like to add seasonal decor to the top of our media center.
This year, I decorated with my new wooden sign that I made using my Cricut! You can make this sign for your home too. Check out the full tutorial here – it’s such an easy project.
And of course, I added some more decorative trees! That modern white tree is another one of my absolute favorite decor pieces.
The focal point of the room is our traditional Christmas tree. I love having the tree right in the middle of our home because you can see it from all of the different rooms. It’s so beautiful with the twinkly lights.
Every year, we decorate the tree with Christmas lights and ornaments that we’ve collected through the years.
Many of the ornaments are from when we were growing up. We’ve also collected new ones since we’ve been married and continued to add to our collection.
I love having a traditional tree because it brings back memories. It’s so fun to bring out the ornaments each year and decorate. Each ornament has a story or memory from the past.
Under the tree, Ben has a little train set that we put up each year. We always had a train under the tree growing up and I love that we can continue the tradition in our family.
Did you have a train under your tree when you were growing up? How about now? Are you a train under the tree family or no train under the tree family?
It may not be the trendiest or most color-coordinated tree, but we love it! There’s something about the classic decorations that makes the holiday season special.
It’s not Christmas in our home without the garland on our staircase!
I invested in some beautiful faux greenery garland with battery-powered lights a few years ago. Each year, I add some faux eucalyptus to make the garland look more natural and full.
You can read all about how I created this beautiful garland look here.
This year I found these gorgeous, festive gold bells. They layered perfectly with the garland. And nothing says Christmas like bells!
On the other side of the stairs in the dining room, I kept things simple. I decorated our console table with a cute little flocked tree and some other festive decorations.
This view of our home decorated for Christmas is my absolute favorite! It’s why I love the holidays so much.
If only I had a reason to keep the decorations up all year. But, that’s what makes the holidays so special. It’s something we look forward to each year.
I hope you enjoyed this tour of our home for Christmas! Our family is wishing you a wonderful and relaxing holiday season.
Merry Christmas!
Everything is just stunning. I just love your home and it is especially pretty decorated for Christmas.
Thanks so much Sophie! That’s so sweet of you to say. Hope you had a wonderful Christmas 🙂
