If you’re new here, I just wanted to take a second to say “Welcome” and introduce myself. I’m Christene and I’m so glad you’ve decided to stop by. Consider this your virtual welcome into my home. So step inside and grab a cup of coffee!
I’m passionate about all things home. Decorating, organizing, creating, renovating. You name it — I love it! I believe that your home should be a haven for your family. A place where everyone is comfortable and feels welcome.
My home style is what I like to call “Modern Classic.” It’s a little bit of traditional and a little bit of modern mixed together to create a fresh and casual atmosphere.
I’m finishing Christmas home tour week with our traditional fresh Christmas tree.
Each year, Ben and I go out and get a fresh Christmas tree. There’s just something so fun about going out and hunting for that perfect tree. And the smell of a fresh tree in your home is amazing! This year we picked out a Fraser Fir tree.
We live in a townhome, so the spot right when you come up the stairs is perfect for a Christmas tree.
It’s in the middle of the house and you can see the tree from all of the main rooms.
It’s also really fun to get a sneak peek of the tree as you are walking up the stairs into the living room.
When it comes to our Christmas tree, it’s less about themes and more about traditions. We like to keep the decorations simple with clear lights and all of our treasured Christmas ornaments.
Every year, I look forward to getting the Christmas ornament boxes out of storage. And as we open each one, we get to reminisce about our Christmases from years past and all the memories.
Both Ben and I grew up collecting our own Christmas ornaments. We have a variety of ornaments from our childhood and also many that we’ve collected since we got married.
Each ornament is unique. Some of them are sentimental, others have stories associated with them. Some are from trips we have taken or places we’ve seen, and others are just ones that we liked or thought were pretty!
Throughout the tree, you’ll also see many Shiny Bright glass bulbs. We have probably 4 different sets of these retro-inspired ornaments. They help to fill in any ornament gaps and they add just a little more sparkle!
So, our tree is a combination of all of those types of ornaments.
It’s fun to sit on the couch and just gaze at the tree. Each time we look over, we’ll spot a different ornament.
Let me show you some of them up close.
One of my family’s favorite vacation spots is Hilton Head Island. This ornament is from the trip where Ben and I got engaged. We got engaged at Harbor Town which is where the big red and white lighthouse is located.
This miniature cake is actually a tiny replica of our real wedding cake. I found an artist on Etsy who sculpted and created this cherished ornament for us.
This tiny train set is Ben’s from when he was growing up. He loves to line up each car on the perfect tree branch every year.
One of Ben’s family traditions was that each year they received a new ornament for Christmas. Here is his ornament from Christmas 1991.
This mercury glass Santa is a replica of one of my Dad’s favorite ornaments. He gave each of us our own Santa for our tree.
This ornament is just one of my favorites because I love the colors and sparkle that it has. It also reminds me of making gingerbread houses growing up.
I’m a big Disney fan (nerd) so there are numerous “hidden Mickeys” throughout our tree – like this little one.
Speaking of Disney, Ben and I both love EPCOT, so our course we have a tiny version of Spaceship Earth for our tree.
Wall-E is one of our favorite Disney movies. We first saw it when we were dating and have an attachment to it. So we couldn’t pass up this Wall-E and Eve ornament for our tree.
Ben has a number of fun Star Wars ornaments on the tree from his childhood. These are really cool because they plug into the light strand and actually light up on the tree!
Last year we got a pet pawprint ornament kit for Widget. This is the first year that we’ve gotten to display Widget’s adorable pawprint ornament on the tree!
For some reason, Ben and I both love mushroom ornaments. I know, kind of weird. I was trying to think of a way to explain it but really there’s no explanation. I guess we just think they are pretty or something. We have a few of them scattered around the tree.
This ornament is one we got for our very first Christmas as newlyweds. I know that it will be a cherished one for years to come.
Our traditional Christmas tree is the centerpiece of our home during the holidays. Decorating it is a family tradition that I look forward to each year.
I hope that you enjoyed this tour of our traditional fresh Christmas tree. Don’t forget to hop over to all of the other blogs to see their amazingly beautiful trees! Just click on the images below.

Our Traditional Fresh Christmas Tree (You’re Here)
I love a fresh tree and yours is perfect. And OH MY GOLLY… what a fabulous idea on the wedding cake ornament! I had no idea there was such a thing. You’ll have fabulous memories for years to come.
Aww thank you Cindy! You’re so sweet. Yes, I love our wedding cake ornament. I found an artist on Etsy who made it for us for our first anniversary. I don’t think she makes them anymore, but I’m sure there are others out there. It’s a fun way to remember our wedding day!

A traditional tree tells a story doesn’t it. They bring out your sentimentality and are personally enjoyable to review the ornaments and think about the stories behind them.
Real trees are always the best trees and yours it gorgeous.
Aww thanks Leanna! Totally agree 🙂 Sentimentality is the best at Christmas.

Its so true cutting down a tree is so much fun and it looks amazing.! Your home and tree are beautiful.
Maria
Thanks so much Maria! I look forward to it every year.

What a huge tree! I love it! I’m lovin the star wars ornament too. This has got me thinking. I saved all my sons Star Wars stuff in case it was worth millions one day, lol. I bet I could make some ornaments for him now that he’s older! Your tree is just beautiful! Stopping in from the hop.
Kim
Thanks Kim! Yes! You could totally make them into ornaments. The nostalgic ones are the best 🙂
Thanks for stopping by from the hop!

I just love a traditional Christmas tree. Utilizing ornaments that have personal meaning should be what it is all about, especially when you have kids in the house. I want to compliment your gorgeous tree, those branches are perfect for all your lovely ornaments!
Aww thanks Chloe. It’s so funny because I was kind of thinking my tree “wasn’t enough” because of all the gorgeous fake trees in blogland, but I’ve been getting so many sweet compliments. It makes me realize that everyone loves decor with meaning and memories too 🙂

That has to be the most perfect live tree I have ever seen!! I love the Disney ornaments!!
Thanks Allison!! I think we found a good one this year 🙂
I’m glad you loved our Disney ornaments — I’m a BIG Disney fan so I love having little accents in our Christmas tree.

First, your home is gorgeous! Second, that giant tree is beautiful in the middle of the home. It must feel so Christmasy in your house and smell so good. BTW – I’m in love with your stair garland too. Pinned this to my Christmas tree board.
Thank you Erlene for your sweet words!!! And yes, it really makes it super Christmas-y in our home. It’s kind of sad when it all comes down because the tree fits so well there. I haven’t found any other “Furniture” that really fits in that space.
Thanks for pinning too!

I would love to have a real tree one year but we have dogs and that usually doesn’t mix well. Your tree is beautiful and the location in your home is indeed perfect. Visiting from the blog hop.
Yea, sometimes animals and real trees just do not mix. But that’s ok because there are soooo many pretty faux trees now. Thanks for stopping by from the hop 🙂

Your tree is beautiful and brings back memories of my mom’s trees when I was young. She bought that bushy full variety of tree but I never see them here in Texas. She also had a lovely eclectic collection of ornaments, like yours, that make a Christmas tree truly personal and authentic.
Jeannee
Aww thanks Jeannee! I actually grew up in the Northeast too so I haven’t known how different areas of the country do Christmas. So up until recently I never really thought about the fact that there are areas in the country that don’t have the big full Christmas trees available. They just don’t grow in some places lol
Hope that you are having a great week!

I love your tree! Especially the train track you have around the bottom. So cute! 🙂 Thank you for sharing!
Thanks Jolene! Trains are so fun and remind me of being a kid again 🙂
Thanks for stopping by the blog!
